I’m sure I’ve explained before that I sing stupid songs to Nate’s cat all the time, most of which are based on existing [stupid] songs. I hit a new low the other day, singing her a feline-themed parody (and really, it was an insult to the concept of parody) of Jenny From The Block.
I will spare you the details, because I’d rather detail the tangent I went into. I can’t think of Jenny From The Block without thinking of Watch Out Now. It’s still not a great song, but it’s fun, and I do think it’s a superior use of the beat.
The one thing I do love about the song is the line “She did the butterfly, rubbing her ass against my button fly” - I’m a little obsessed with how spectacularly 90s this one rhyme manages to be. I’m not sure there is an equivalent for any other decade, in terms of dance move/trend combination:
“She did the Charleston, rubbing her ass against my bootleg rum”
“She did the Bus Stop, rubbing her ass against my satin top”
“She did the Hammer Dance, rubbing her ass against my Hammer pants”
?????
(I’m going to go ahead and mention that I’m still so busy at work that I can almost feel my brain failing)
